#ReImagining Schools Thuvariman Elementary School Renovation

Thuvariman Government Elementary School near Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India has been serving students of the village and nearby villages for over 100 years.  The school had infrastructure issues that were brought to our attention and we were able to promptly revamp the building, procure school furniture and other accessories.  The initiative was funded by our volunteers and coordinated by volunteers in India with the help of the school Headmistress, Panchayat Leader and other teachers.

The initiative was named #ReImaginingSchools and this is one of our first stepping stones to provide world class and state of the art infra to students in Government schools.

Our inspiration to take this on us versus waiting/depending on Govt. is Dr. Kamal Haasan who champions "நாமே தீர்வு / Naame Theervu" meaning "we are the solution".

The renovated school was reopened on Mr. Kamal Haasan’s birthday November 7th, 2020 and was widely appreciated by the school management, staff, village panchayat leaders and most importantly, students and their parents.  The renovated schools started attracting several private school students as their parents started seeing much value from the infrastructure compared to private schools that charge exorbitant fees.

Dr. Kamal Haasan’s Press Release on the project

Dr. Kamal Haasan’s acknowledgements.

This project has become very close to Dr. Kamal Haasan’s heart and he has been quoting it in every possible stage, as a great example for “welfare” aka “நற்பணி” focusing school infrastructure transformation.
